French Bank Societe Generale Reports Record Profit
Societe Generale reported record profits this July as its retail banking business performed better than expected.
The French bank earned around €1.79 billion during the second quarter of 2026, which was 23% higher than the same period last year. Strong results from everyday banking services and better control over expenses helped support the growth.
The results are important because they show that traditional banking can still be a strong source of income, even while other parts of the financial industry face uncertainty.
The bank also announced plans to return more money to shareholders through a share buyback and a higher dividend, showing confidence in its financial position.
As Societe Generale continues working on its growth strategy, investors will be watching to see if the bank can keep this momentum going during the rest of 2026.
